Burglary protection from KATHREIN Digital Systems: The more technical obstacles, the higher the deterrence

Security technology for the high-risk months of December and January

With many people visiting their families or travelling and companies closing their properties for the upcoming holiday season, the risk of burglary will increase again. KATHREIN Digital Systems therefore recommends investing in security measures before leaving the house and increasing the number of technical obstacles against break-ins as much as possible. In recent studies, the German Insurance Association (GDV) has warned of increased numbers of burglaries in December and January*. The GDV attributes the slight overall decline in the number of burglaries in recent years to the fact that more and more properties are being equipped with technical security systems. The keyword here is “smart home”.**

For optimum protection, KATHREIN Digital Systems recommends its own portfolio of security technology, which includes a large variety of products. The heart and soul of every KATHREIN security solution is the certified FAZ 100 wireless alarm centre. It controls and manages up to 160 sensors in two different zones. What is more, it can be controlled via browser or app (iOS/Android) and features an integrated mobile communication module. The FBM 100 and FBM 100-2 motion detectors from Kathrein provide the basic framework for protection against burglary. They detect movements and trigger an alarm if either one or more motion detectors are activated. In addition, they permanently transmit their status and automatically detect sabotage attempts.

They are complemented by the FGM 100 acoustic glass break detector and the FMK 100 magnetic door and window sensor. The indoor and outdoor sirens from KATHREIN Digital Systems make the home security package complete. For those who want to do even more, Kathrein offers the WIK 100 surveillance camera with extra-wide viewing angle and infrared night vision technology. The camera can be controlled via the free FAZcontrol app, even independent from the alarm centre.

Another important feature of a security system is its user-friendliness. The user should be able to activate and deactivate a security system reliably, and signals should always reach their destination. Therefore, freely placeable wireless keypads, remote controls or tag readers with the corresponding RFID chip are just as much part of the Kathrein portfolio as repeaters that extend the system range.

“It goes without saying that customers today expect their digital system to be as simple as possible to commission and control. And they should be able to be alerted whenever and wherever they are, or to proactively check the status,” says Michael Auer, managing director at KATHREIN Digital Systems. “The free Kathrein FAZcontrol app meets this requirement. The user can see everything at a glance: a short log list with the latest events, alarm status display, arming/disarming, direct access to sensor states, automation and live pictures from the camera.”

Additional benefit: Eligible for funding
Meanwhile there are several government funding programmes for security technology. Under certain conditions, end customers can get part of the invested sum refunded, for example by the KfW Bank. For Kathrein’s FAZ 100, for example, up to 1,600 EUR are eligible. All you have to do is select the appropriate funding programme on the KfW website and submit an application before you start the project. Depending on the scope and components of the security package, the funding is usually between 10 and 15 percent.
