Environmentally Friendly Satellite Reception with Kathrein Power Saving

Automatically switch off inactive devices, save electricity and reduce costs with Made in Germany products from KATHREIN DS

KATHREIN Digital Systems (KATHREIN DS), market leader for digital reception and distribution of satellite, terrestrial, cable and IP signals, supports installation technicians and dealers to choose particularly energy-efficient products with its own labelling. Under the label "energy saver", the company places all products that are suitable for the implementation of an energy-efficient satellite reception system. Therefore, these products do not only work sustainably, but also significantly reduce operating costs.

A special highlight of this programme is the "Kathrein Power Saving" technology which is used in the recently presented EXD 154 as well as in other multi-switches. This means that after the last receiver of the entire system is turned off, the multi-switch automatically switches into a deep standby mode with a zero load of 0.15 watt. Furthermore, other components of the system, such as LNBs or amplifiers, which often consume between 2 and 4 watts, are also switched off.

The Kathrein Eco series offers a new approach to energy saving for multi-switches. Due to the remote feeding of the multi-switches via the connected receivers, their own power consumption is 0 watt as soon as all participants switch off their receivers. In addition, there are further energy-saving effects resulting from particularly low zero load values and high efficiency of the components used.  It goes without saying that all Kathrein products comply with the applicable EU regulations on power consumption. Moreover, Kathrein places great importance on the compliance with ERP requirements for office and household appliances with external power supply units, even if, strictly speaking, these do not apply to installation technology.

"Even though TV reception via satellite already has a clear advantage in terms of energy consumption compared to streaming via the internet, for example, we at KATHREIN DS are constantly developing further energy saving solutions, and we have been doing so for quite some time," says Michael Auer, Managing Director of KATHREIN Digital Systems. "Rarely can two goals be better combined than sustainability and long-term cost savings. Therefore, it is worth taking a second look at products which appear to be particularly low-priced, as these have decisive disadvantages compared to high-quality Kathrein products, even after short operating time.”
